The Cubs were led at the plate by Nico Hoerner whoi had 2 doubles and a 2-run double by Miguel Amaya.
Jameson Taillon got the win going the first 5 innings.
The Cubs and the Marlins will play a split doubleheader on Saturday.
The Chicago White Sox were held to 2 hits on Friday night in a 7-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Phillies were led by Alec Bohm who hit 2 3-run home runs.
Spender Turnbull went 7 innings for the win.
Garrett Crochet took the loss for the White Sox as he pitched 3 innings. He is now (1-3) for the season.
Chicago is now (3-16). Game 2 in the series is Saturday night in Philadelphia.
