The City of Rochelle is looking at a cost of around $270,000 to repair the bank last April between the Kyte River and the wastewater treatment plant excess overflow lagoon which is located north of the Intermodal Drive Bridge.
The problem occurred in mid-April as the city had to build a road to get to the bank. City Engineer Sam Tesreau said that the project should be completed by early next week.
Tesreau also said that the city plans to look at future banks in residential areas that may need work.
Figures show that Rochelle received about 4 inches of rain in a 24 hour period between April 17th and 18th. Tesreau said that the city handled the wet spring very well due to the work done in the past along the Kyte River.
Little progress is being made on the Greater Rochelle base floodplain and elevation study. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources expects to send a letter to the city in the next 2 weeks. The information on the study will then be sent to the Federal Emergency Management Agency or FEMA.
