NIU in DeKalb is paying about $2,000 a day in salaries for the 8 employees placed on administrative leave after being arrested in the "coffee fund" investigation.
Felony arrest warrants were issued last week against 9 people following the investigation by NIU police. They allegedly sold scrap metal and other items for the "coffee fund". The money would be used for retirement parties and other office expenses.
4 of the employees were placed on paid administrative leave on August 29th. The other 4 were placed on the list last Thursday.
The 9th employee involving this case has reisgned from the University.
The 9 have been charged with felony theft, felony misconduct, and obstruction of justice.
They are accused of stealing more than 13 hundred dollars since 2005.
