Members from the Rochelle Pickleball Club along with local tennis players turned out at the Flagg Rochelle Community Park District board meeting Monday night wanting more courts in the future as part of the renovation project at Helms Park.
The first design plan showed 2 to 3 tennis courts and 2 pickleball courts. Both groups wanted more courts and used only for tennis or pickleball.
Park District Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger said they appreciate the viewpoints of the residents. She stressed that they are in the early stages of this project.
Ohlinger said they currently have 4 courts for tennis and pickleball. The design for Helms Park will work best on the budget for the project.
Park officials approved the annual abatement ordinance. Ohlinger said that the tax levy for the district also saw a decline of 11 cents. The tax bill will be lower for area residents from the park district.
The EAV has also increased for the park district.
