Creston officials approve new HVAC for Village Hall

A new heating and air conditioning unit for the Village Hall building, a small increase in insurance coverage, and the fiscal year 2018 tax levy topped the discussion tonight for Creston officials.

The current heating and air conditioning system is 28 years old at the Village Hall building. The new unit will cost $5,450.

The board heard an update report from Adam Heal involving their insurance coverage. The premiums will be going up 1 percent or $160 from a year ago.

The fiscal year 2018 tax levy for the village was introduced last night and will be approved during the December meeting. It totals $17,453 or a 4.9 percent increase from a year ago. The figure rose by $830.

The cost for the Ogle County GIS beacon is expected to increase by around $160. The village's cost right now is $253 a year. The county charges by the number of parcels in the village.

The intergovernmental agreement was approved between Creston and Dement Township when it comes to winter maintenance assistance.

The village will also spend up to $2,700 for a "Pesa" study dealing with the sidewalk project near the downtown area. The study will determine if the soil has been contaminated prior to the construction work.
