A special prosecutor has been appointed involving the case of an Oregon man following the death of a Rockford woman last summer in a boating accident on the Rock River.
Last month, Ogle County Associate Circuit Judge John Redington granted a request from Ogle County State's Attorney Eric Morrow dealing with a special prosecutor in the case.
Dave Neal from the Office of Illinois State's Attorney Appelate Prosecutor was appointed yesterday. He is a former state's attorney in Grundy County.
Misdemeanor charges have been filed against 47-year old Marc Mongan at the present time. He was driving a boat under the influence of alcohol last June when it hit a pontoon boat. 31-year old Megan Wells of Rockford suffered fatal injuries from the crash.
In December of last year, an Ogle County grand jury found there was no probable cause to proceed with felony charges in the case against Mongan
Judge Redington has granted a motion for a grand jury will meet again next month as there is new evidence in the case. A hearing has been scheduled for October 4th.
