No one hurt in Rochelle house fire Sunday morning

No one suffered any injuries Sunday morning following a house fire in Rochelle which destroyed a 2-car garage.

The blaze was noticed a short time before 3:30 at 1,000 North 3rd Street, the residence of Ryan Carson along with his wife and 2 girls.

Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville said that flames were coming from the garage when the police and fire crews arrived on the scene. 2 cars parked in the driveway in front of the garage were destroyed.

The garage was a total loss as a motorcyle was parked inside along with a riding mower. There was extensive smoke damage inside the home.

Estimated cost damage to the residence was around $80,000.

For the 2nd time in the past week, a Rochelle family escaped serious injuries due to their smoke detectors working.

Chief Sawlsville said that the Carson family were able to stay with relatives in Rochelle until their home is repaired.

The cause of the flames in the garage remains under investigation.

Assisting in the fire yesterday morning were departments from Hillcrest, Creston, Steward, and Flagg Center.
