The recovery progress continues for Rochelle families following the April 9th tornado

The recovery process continues for families in rural Rochelle who had their home destroyed or damaged last spring by a tornado.

The high winds struck the area on April 9th.

Several families have returned to a new home while others are still working with their insurance company. During this week's program "Let The People Know", Rochelle Marketing and Public Relations Manager Jenny Thompson said that progress is being made for the subdivision.

She said they will offer trees this spring and fall in a matching grant program for the families. An anniversary event will also take place on April 9th at Rochelle Township High School for the community. It will be a celebration of the recovery that has happened for the families.

Emergency personnel in the area have met several times since the tornado. They have talked about things that went good and also what went bad following the damage. Rochelle Emergency Management Coordinator Terry Inman said that they will be better prepared in case of another tornado or disaster hits the area in the future.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".

Next week's guest will be Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson.
