Teens receive Ogle County 9-1-1 Hero Award

2 students from the Meridian School District have received the Ogle County 9-1-1 Hero A
ward after they helped a woman in Davis Junction last December during a mobile home fire.

Freshman Megan Grimes and 6th grade student Tyler Kubiszewski responded quickly to help their elderly neighbor during the fire on December 4th.

Tyler grabbed the family's fire extinguisher and put out the flames from the electrical fire.

Megan helped Elsa Schlaf get out of her home as she was not injured.

Both teens were given a medal and certificate for their efforts along with other gifts. Short ceremonies with Ogle County officials were held at Stillman Valley High School and the Junior High School.

Neighbors of Schlaf have helped her after the fire. 1 individual fixed the siding on the mobile home while an area business provided free repair work.
