Several public and community service organizational meetings have been scheduled over the next 2 months in Lee County dealing with information on the detention facility referendum.
Voters will decide on March 15th if they want a new jail in Lee County.
The Lee County board on December 15th decided to put a 1 percent sales tax increase on the ballot for the new detention center. The facility is expected to cost between 12 to 13 million dollars and house up to 85 prisoners.
If the referendum is approved, it would bring in an estimated 2.2 million dollars a year in revenue.
A 1 percent sales tax increase would raise that figure to 7.25 percent.
Public presentations this week will take place on Monday at the Amboy City Council meeting and on Wednesday at the Dixon Lions Club gathering.
Area residents can learn more about the jail proposal next month in Ashton and Franklin Grove.
