The status hearing was continued Friday for a Rochelle man in connection with the felony offense of aggravated reckless driving. A local man lost his life in June of 2013 while riding his motorcycle in the Hub City.
21-year old Caleb Holder of Rochelle died from blunt trauma to his head as he was struck from behind by a car driven by 42-year old Erik Steffins.
Steffins was also charged with DUI along with the aggravated reckless driving offense. Authorities say that cannabis was found in his system.
Reports indicate that Holder was riding his motorcycle southbound on Illinois 251 in Rochelle, just before Lakeview Drive, prior to the collision.
Steffins' attorney requested that the hearing be continued yesterday with the objection from the state. Circuit Judge Ben Roe has now set the status hearing for February 27th at 9am.
Ogle County officials say that Steffins plans to plead guilty to the felony offense of aggravated reckless driving. The delay in the plea involves the restitution for the Holder family.
Steffins is out of jail following the posting of 10 percent or $5,000 of the $50,000 bond.
