The October crop report issued by USDA Friday contained no major surprises. As expected, USDA boosted estimated yields of both corn and soybeans and trimmed acreage back slightly leaving total production at about the same level as predicted last month.
They did boost estimated corn and soybean yields for Illinois, taking corn from the previous estimate of 194 bushels per acre to 200 this month, the best in the nation. With more acres, Iowa will slightly outproduce Illinois in total corn production.
Illinois soybean yields were left at last months guess of 56 bushels per acre. Illinois will be the top producer of soybeans this year, edging out Iowa which has a few more acres but that is offset by lower yields in Iowa
