Illinois State Police have released the name of the Rochelle woman who was found dead on I-39 near Baxter Road early Sunday morning.
29-year old Tiffany Cole suffered fatal injuries from the incident. Authorities say she is from Davis Junction, but had been living with her mother in Rochelle.
Illinois State Police say that Cole was a pedestrian on I-39 when she was struck by a semi-tractor trailer truck who was traveling south bound a short time after 1:30am. The driver told police that he thought he had hit a deer.
Cole was pronounced dead at around 9 Sunday morning. Following an autopsy, the cause of death was from multiple blunt trauma. The toxicology results will be known in about 2 weeks.
State police are not saying why Cole was on I-39 at that time of the morning.
The incident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed against the truck driver at this time.
