The Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Illinois Chapter is seeking 40 artists to create works of art at the 2012 Unforgettable Art: An Affair for Alzheimer’s event to be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Prairie Street Brew House, 200 Prairie Street, Downtown Rockford. The Alzheimer's Association – Central Illinois Chapter will offer “The Savvy Caregiver” a program designed to provide clinical level training for family caregivers. This six week series will be offered on consecutive Tuesdays, Feb. 7 – March 6, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., at the Rock River Branch Office, 93 S. Hennepin, Dixon.
For those who are unable to attend the first session, a second session will be held Wednesdays, April 25 – May 30, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Rock River Branch Office. Individuals can register for one program but cannot enroll in both programs.
Throughout the program caregivers are urged to learn, develop and modify strategies to accomplish the goal for their particular care giving situation. Participants will gain personal knowledge, skills to assess abilities of a loved one with dementia, confidence to set and alter care giving goals, strategies to manage activities of daily living, and perspective on the course of Alzheimer’s and other related dementia.
The materials cost for the six week course is $30 per person.

At 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18th, Polo Public Library and Polo Senior Center are co-hosting reenactors of Samuel L. Clemens (a.k.a. Mark Twain) and his wife, Olivia "Livy" Louise Landon Clemens.  Stuart Corsa and Mary Ann Constable Guttman have performed as The Twains throughout Northern Illinois.  This adult program is a sometimes scathingly humorous anthology of the life of Mark Twain, American author, lecturer, and humorist noted for his novels Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The performance will be at the Polo Senior Center, 101 E. Mason Street.  It is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served following the program and donations will be accepted. The preschool program at Rochelle Township High School still has openings in the afternoon session beginning February 21st.  The RTHS preschool program provides fun and educational activities for children ages 3-5.  Preschool meets every Tuesday and Thursday for 10 weeks, from 1:20 to 2:55 pm. Parents may have enrollment forms mailed to them or may pick them up in the RTHS main office. The Oregon Park District is now accepting registrations for the spring session of swimming lessons.  Morning, afternoon, and evening classes are available Monday-Thursday beginning the week of March 26th through May 17th.  Private and group lessons are offered for ages 3 & up.  A parent tot class is also available for participants 6 months – 3years.     Registration deadline is March 17th.  More information is available at www.oregonpark.org or by calling 732-3101

Free monthly Monday suppers are again being offered in Rochelle the first and third Monday’s of every month.  The suppers are at the Fireman’s Social Hall on 6th avenue in Rochelle.  Doors open at 4:45 with serving from 5 til 6 and all are welcome.  This program is an outreach ministry of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Every Wednesday 6p, Rochelle United Methodist Church will be having a great dinner for $3 per person or $10 per family.  Kids under the age of 4 are free.  Please let us serve you!
