The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a six-year, $68-million contract
with free-agent Cuban first baseman Jose Abreu. Abreu's power was introduced
to the masses during the 2013 World Baseball Classic when he batted .360 with
three homers, nine RBI and six runs scored over six games. The 26-year-old has
played the last nine seasons in Cuba's top-level league. Including the
postseason, Abreu has hit .392 with 133 home runs, 337 RBI and 311 runs scored
346 games over the last four seasons.
