Asdrubal Cabrera and Lonnie Chisenhall each hit home runs as part of a five-run fourth as the Indians cruised past the White Sox 8-1 at U.S. Cellular Field. Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez allowed just one run on eight hits in eight-and-a-third innings and improved to 12-and-9. Carlos Santana went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Cleveland which kept its wild card hopes alive by winning a third straight contest. Andre Rienzo lasted just four innings giving up seven hits and five earned runs in the loss. Conor Gillaspie collected two hits and Josh Phegley went 3-for-3 knocking in the only run for Chicago.

Jose Tabata and Marlon Byrd each hit solo homers to give the Pirates a 2-1 win over the Cubs at PNC Park. Gerrit Cole earned his eighth win dealing seven innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts. Mark Melanco nailed down his 15th save with a perfect ninth. The Pirates have taken two of the first three in the four-game set to move to 86-and-62. Chicago's only run came in the first inning on a Nate Schierholtz double. Reliever James Russell fell to 1-and-6.
