Chris Sale struck out eight over eight innings of one-run ball to lead the White Sox in a 5-1 win over the Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field. Sale improved to 11-and-12 with the win as Chicago won its second straight following a nine-game slide. Paul Konerko hit a two-run single while Dayan Viciedo and Josh Phegley also knocked in runs. Max Scherzer failed in his bid for a 20th win after allowing five runs in four innings. He fell to 19-and-3. Victor Martinez hit a solo homer for Detroit while Miguel Cabrera and manager Jim Leyland were each ejected in the first inning for arguing a check swing call. The Tigers have lost three straight and five out of six.
