The White Sox anemic offense exploded for seven runs in the eighth inning as they defeated the Tigers, 11-4, at Comerica Park in the opener of a three-game set. Dayan Viciedo hit two home runs and drove in four, while Alex Rios was 6-for-6 with two RBI. Chicago had 23 hits total, including 12 off of Tigers starter Justin Verlander. Verlander was charged with five runs in seven-plus innings to take the loss. The White Sox scored 10 runs in the eighth and ninth as they ended a four-game losing streak. The White Sox and Tigers continue their three-game series from Comerica Park in Detroit tonight with the middle contest. Dylan Axelrod gets the start for the White Sox while the Tigers send Rick Porcello to the hill. The Sox are looking to get on a roll after ending a four-game slide with last night's 23-hit, 11-run attack on Detroit. First pitch is set for 6:08. This evening's game can be heard on Newstalk 1060.
It appears White Sox right-hander Jake Peavy will hold off until after the All-Star break to pitch in a game. Manager Robin Ventura says the team will wait until late next week to give the veteran a rehab start. Peavy fractured his left rib on June 4th against Seattle. He threw in a simulated game yesterday in Detroit, throwing 75 pitches. Peavy also throw a 53-pitch bullpen session last week in Tampa.
