Dan Straily combined with two relievers on a two-hitter as the Athletics shut out the Cubs 1-0 at the Coliseum. Straily walked three but allowed just one hit over seven innings to move to 5-and-2 with the win. Grant Balfour got the final three outs for his 21st save as Oakland took the rubber match of the three-game series. Derek Norris walked and eventually scored the game's lone run on a passed ball in the seventh inning. Matt Guerrier took the loss for Chicago in his first outing since being acquired in the Carlos Marmol trade. Starlin Castro and Alfonso Soriano had the lone hits for the Cubs.
The Cubs will be at home this afternoon against Piitsburgh.
