Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run home run in the top of the 11th inning and the Cubs made it stand in a 5-3 win over the Mariners at Safeco Field. Soriano drove in three runs and Starlin Castro added a home run for Chicago. Jeff Samardzija pitched seven strong innings and left with a 3-2 lead, but closer Kevin Gregg allowed the Mariners to tie it in the bottom of the ninth. Carlos Villanueva got the win and Blake Parker recorded his first save of the season for the Cubs. Justin Smoak homered for Seattle, but Oliver Perez allowed two runs in the 11th and took the loss to fall to 2-and-2.
