Chicago Baseball (Wednesday)

Clay Buchholz fired seven strong innings to remain perfect on the season as the Red Sox beat the White Sox 6-2 to avoid a three-game sweep at U.S. Cellular Field. Buchholz allowed just one run on five hits and three walks as he improved to 7-and-0. David Ortiz and Daniel Nava drove in two runs apiece for the BoSox, who have won six of their last eight. Paul Konerko homered and Alex Rios plated the other run for the Pale Hose, who have dropped three-of-five. Hector Santiago fell to 1-and-3 with the loss, despite striking out nine in six innings of two-run ball.

White Sox return to action on Friday at home against Florida. WRHL's Pre-Game Show begins at 6:35 on Newstalk 1060.

Francisco Liriano out-dueled Jeff Samardzija  to lead the Pirates past the Cubs 1-0.  Garrett Jones drove in Andrew McCutchen with a two-out single in the bottom of the first inning, and the Bucs made it stand for Liriano, who shut out the Cubs for seven innings.  Liriano struck out nine and allowed two hits to improve to 3-and-0.  Samardzija was the hard-luck losing pitcher despite allowing a run on on three hits with eight strikeouts.  He's 2-and-6.  Welington Castillo had two of Chicago's four hits.  Mark Melancon earned his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
