Chris Sale struck out 12 over seven-and-two-thirds innings to help the White Sox sink the Angels, 3-0. Sale walked three and gave up three hits on his way to a 5-and-2 record. Addison Reed secured his 14th save. Alex Rios and Adam Dunn both had a solo home run for Chicago, which has won four straight. C.J. Wilson gave up two runs in seven frames to slip to 3-and-3. Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton combined to go 0-for-11 with five strikeouts. Los Angeles has lost three in-a-row and five-of-six overall.

Pitcher Matt Harvey singled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to help his own cause as the Mets clipped the Cubs, 3-2. David Wright and Daniel Murphy hit solo homers as New York won the opener of the three-game series at Wrigley Field. On the mound, Harvey pitched seven and a third innings of two-run ball to move to 5-and-0 with win win. Bobby Parnell posted his fifth save. Edwin Jackson allowed all three runs in six-and-two-thirds frames to fall to 1-and-6 with the loss. The Cubs scored twice in the first when Robinson Tejada threw away Alfonso Soriano's infield single.
