White Sox win, Cubs lose on the Chicago baseball scene

Tyler Flowers doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning as the White Sox topped the Twins 4-2 in the middle game of a three-game series at Target Field. Alexei Ramirez added an RBI-single in the eighth, while Adam Dunn and Dayan Viciedo hit back-to-back solo homers in the second inning for Chicago, which has won two-of-three. Jake Peavy struck out six over seven innings of two-run ball as he improved to 5-and-1. Addison Reed closed it out for his 12th save. Oswaldo Arcia and Trevor Plouffe plated a run each for the Twins, who have alternated wins and losses over their last six games. Kevin Correia permitted four runs and nine hits in seven frames to fall to 4-and-3 with the loss.

Final game in the series can be heard on Newstalk 1060 today as our coverage begins at 1pm.

Carlos Gonzalez finished 5-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI as the Rockies crushed the Cubs 9-4 in the middle of a three-game set at Wrigley Field.  Eric Young Jr. added a two-run homer and Todd Helton also plated a pair for Colorado, which has won two-of-three after a four-game skid.  Jeff Francis struck out seven while giving up just one run on three hits over six innings as he improved to 2-and-3 with his first win since his first start of the year.  Darwin Barney went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for the Cubs, who had won their previous three.  Carlos Villanueva was rocked for seven runs and 12 hits in five frames as he fell to 1-and-3.
