Saturday Local Sports

The NIU Huskies finished up spring practise yesterday as they held their 1st "Huskie Bowl".

The Black Team defeated the Cardinal Team 31-7.

Quarterback Drew Hare lead the Black Team as he was 7-10 for 143 yards and 1 TD. Sean Evans also had 2 interceptions for the Black Team.

NIU is coming off a (12-2) record last season which included their 2nd straight MAC Championship and a game in the Discover Orange Bowl game against Florida State.

NIU opens up the season on Saturday, August 31st, at Iowa. Their home opener is Saturday, September 21st vs Eastern Illinois. 4 of the 1st 5 games are on the road for the Huskies in 2013.

Jen Jenkins of Rochelle finished in 2nd place in 2 events yesterday at the Redbird Spring Invitational held at Illinois State University in Normal.

Jen took 2nd in the Long jump with a mark of 17-11.75 and 2nd in the Triple Jump at 37-4.

Jenkins is a Senior at ISU.
