Illinois beats Colorado in 1st NCAA tournament game

Brandon Paul scored a game-high 17 points to lift seventh-seeded Illinois to a 57-49 victory over 10th-seeded Colorado in the second round of the East Region. D.J. Richardson added 14 points and five rebounds for the Fighting Illini, who shot just 31-percent from the floor but still advance to play second-seeded Miami-Florida on Sunday. The Illini only made three field goals in the second half. Askia Booker tallied a team-high 14 points for the Buffaloes, who rallied from 16 down at the half to take a 44-39 lead with nine-and-a-half minutes left in the game. Colorado ends its season at 21-and-12.
