Brian Urlacher is speaking out about his departure from the Chicago Bears. The team announced Wednesday that the two sides were parting ways after failing to agree to a new contract. The 34-year-old linebacker says there were no negotiations, the Bears simply gave him a lowball, take it or leave it offer. Urlacher had spent his entire 13-year career with Chicago after being drafted in 2000. The eight-time Pro Bowler was the league's defensive player of the year in 2005. Urlacher has 41-and-a-half sacks and 22 interceptions in his career.
Chicago Bears tight end Evan Rodriguez was reportedly arrested early Thursday morning in Miami. According to CBS Miami, Rodriguez was charged with resisting an officer without violence and disorderly intoxication. The Bears released a statement Thursday and said the team is "aware of the reports. We are currently gathering information to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the situation." Rodriguez had four catches for 21 yards in 12 games last season.
The Chicago Bears have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with tight end Steve Maneri. The 25-year-old spent the past two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, posting six receptions for 52 yards. Last season, Maneri started eight of 13 games played.
