The Texas Rangers have agreed to a one-year contract with free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski. According to MLB.com, the 35-year-old must still pass a physical before the deal becomes official. Pierzynski hit .278 with a career-high 27 home runs and 77 RBI last season with the Chicago White Sox. He spent the last eight seasons with the Pale Hose.
The Chicago Cubs are adding Edwin Jackson to their starting rotation. According to FoxSports.com, the Cubs have agreed to a four-year, 52-million-dollar contract with the 29-year-old right-hander. The deal is pending a physical. Jackson was 10-and-11 with a 4.03 ERA in 31 starts last season for the Washington Nationals. Starting pitcher Carlos Villanueva's contract has also been finalized, pending a physical.
