Chicago Baseball

The White Sox agreed to a two-year, 29-million-dollar extension with pitcher Jake Peavy yesterday. Chicago also excercised a 9.5-million-dollar option on Gavin Floyd while declining options on infielder Kevin Youkilis and pitcher Brett Myers. The Sox still have exclusive negotiating rights with Youkilis and Myers through Friday.

Peavy not only got a new two-year extension yesterday, he also took home a Gold Glove award. Major League Baseball announced last night that Peavy won the AL Gold Glove and will share the honor with Rays pitcher Jeremy Hellickson. Chicago catcher A.J. Pierzynski was also a finalist for an award, but was beat out by the Orioles' Matt Wieters.

Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney won his first Gold Glove award yesterday.  Barney beat out Brandon Phillips of the Reds and Aaron Hill of the Diamondbacks for the honor.  Barney started 147 games for Chicago this year and made just three errors.
