Bryan LaHair singled in Darwin Barney in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Cubs a season-ending 5-4 win over the Astros. LaHair also had a solo home run in the second inning for Chicago, which won for just the second time in its last eleven games to finish the season 61-and-101. Starlin Castro became the first Cubs infielder to play in all 162 games since Hall of Famer Ron Santo in 1968. He is just the fourth shortstop to play in all 162 games in the last ten seasons. Carlos Marmol worked a scoreless inning of relief to get credit for the win. Justin Maxwell clubbed a three-run homer for Houston. Hector Ambriz was saddled with the loss for the 'Stros, who move to the AL West next season. They finished this year at 55-and-107. The 107 losses are a franchise-record.
