Paul Maholm and Carlos Marmol combined on a four-hitter as the Cubs shut out the Pirates, 4-0. Maholm struck out six while scattering four hits and a walk over eight-and-a-third innings for his fifth win. Marmol got the final two outs for his sixth save as Chicago took the opener of the three-game set at Wrigley Field. Steve Clevenger hit his first career home run with a man on, and Luis Valbuena and Alfonso Soriano also went deep for the Cubs. Bud Norris allowed all four runs in six frames to take the loss. Chicago has won three-of-four. Houston has lost its last two.
