The IHSA has announced that Northern Illinois University in DeKalb will host the state high school football championships next year.
The title games are usually played at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Due to a scheduling conflict, the games were forced to move during the odd numbers years through 2021.
The games will be held at U of I during the even numbered years.
NIU beat out Illinois State University and Southern Illinois University in a bid to host the games.
NIU President John Peters said it has been the desire of their community to host the IHSA Football Championships.
Huskie Stadium has a seating capacity of 24,000. It also features the state-of-the-art Yordon center and the soon to be constructed Chessick Practise Center.
NIU Head Football Coach Dave Doeren said that the school can not wait to show fans around the state why NIU is such a special place.
