Bulls and Blackhawks both lose

Jonas Valanciunas  had 23 points and 15 rebounds to help the Raptors beat the Bulls 117-101 at Air Canada Centre.  C.J. Miles connected on six threes on his way to 22 points off the bench in Toronto's home opener.  The Raptors made 26-of-28 free throws. 

Chicago first-round pick Lauri Markkanen had a strong debut.  Markkanen put up 17 points and eight rebounds getting the start for the injured Nikola Mirotic  and suspended Bobby Portis.  Robin Lopez added 18 points and eight boards in defeat.

The Bulls play their home opener on Saturday against San Antonio. Pre-Game Show begins at 6:30 on Good Time Oldies 1060.

 

Mark Letestu  scored on a power play with 16 seconds left in overtime to lift the Oilers to a 2-1 victory over the Blackhawks in Chicago.  Cam Talbot stopped 30 shots as Edmonton snapped a four-game losing streak.  Patrick Maroon scored the Oilers' lone goal in regulation late in the first period. 

Patrick Kane scored earlier in the opening period for the only Chicago goal.  Anton Forsberg had 40 saves in the loss.  The Hawks went scoreless on five power-play opportunities.

The Blackhawks will be in Arizona Saturday night.
