Whit Merrifield drove in a career-high five runs to lead the way as the Royals crushed the White Sox 14-6 in Chicago. Merrifield hit a three-run homer in the third and drove in two with a triple in the sixth. Jorge Bonifacio also went deep for Kansas City, which took the series rubber match and improved to 59-and-58. Jason Vargas tossed six frames of three-run ball to pick up the win. Derek Holland surrendered seven runs over two-plus innings of work to take the loss for the White Sox. Chicago is an American League worst 45-and-70.
