Mike Montgomery hit his first career home run and tossed six innings of one-run ball as the Cubs cruised past the Braves 8-2 at SunTrust Park. Montgomery improved to 2-and-6 with the win. Javier Baez belted a three-run homer and Tommy La Stella added a solo shot for the Cubs, who swept the three-game series and have won six straight to open the second half. La Stella replaced third baseman Kris Bryant, who left in the top of the first inning with a sprained left pinkie finger.
Ender Inciarte and Tyler Flowers went deep for the Braves, who were coming off a three-game sweep of Arizona. R.A. Dickey yielded four runs in seven frames as he fell to 6-and-6.
The Cubs have the day off today. They open up a weekend series Friday at Wrigley Field against St. Louis.
