Jharel Cotton combined with four relievers on a seven-hitter as the Athletics shut out the White Sox 3-0 in Chicago. Cotton allowed just three hits and a walk over five-plus frames for his fifth win. Santiago Casilla gave up two hits in the ninth, but held on for his 12th save. Khris Davis hit a two-run homer and Matt Joyce a solo shot as Oakland ended a four-game skid.
Mike Pelfrey fell to 3-and-6 with the loss. Chicago has lost four of its last five.
Today, the White Sox will hold a ceremony for Mark Buehrle as his number 56 will be retired.
Buehrle played 12 seasons with the White Sox out of his 16 years in the major leagues. He had a record of (161-119) that included 2 no-hitters. One was a perfect game in 2009 against Tampa Bay.
