It was a veteran, however, who perhaps provided the most intriguing
storyline of the draft. The Timberwolves acquired All-Star Jimmy
Butler from the Bulls for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the rights to
the No. 7 overall pick, where Arizona sharp-shooting 7-footer Lauri
Markkanen was taken.
Also going to Minnesota are the rights to
Creighton center Justin Patton, who was picked at No. 16 by
Chicago. The deal reunites Butler with Timberwolves coach Tom
Thibodeau, who coached Butler in Chicago from 2011-2015 before
being fired.
