At the meeting of the Oregon Community Unit School District #220 Board of Education Tuesday evening, February 21, the Board officially hired Nick Schneiderman to be the next varsity football head coach at Oregon High School. Schneiderman will take over for former Coach John Bothe, whose resignation was accepted by the Board in November.
Schneiderman currently teaches Physical Education at Oregon High School and has been an assistant football coach in the Oregon program since the 2010 season. Prior to coming to OHS, Schniederman was on the football coaching staffs at Forreston, Richmond-Burton, and Bureau Valley.
“I would like to thank the administration and our coaching staff for their confidence in my ability to lead our Oregon Hawk football program, ” said Schneiderman. “ Our staff is excited for the future, as we look forward to continue the tradition of Oregon Hawk football.”
“We are excited to have Coach Schneiderman take over the program,” said Oregon Activities Director Mike Lawton. “Nick has been a key assistant for the past seven seasons helping Coach Bothe here in Oregon. Not only does he have a tremendous football background from his experiences in college, at OHS, and other successful programs, but he also has great expertise as the strength and conditioning instructor in our Physical Education program at OHS. We feel this combined background will be a major plus for our football athletes.”
Schneiderman is a 2003 graduate from Loras College where he also played for the Duhawks. He obtained his masters degree in Educational Leadership from National-Louis University in 2010.
Oregon will open the 2017 football season on Friday, August 25 with a home game vs. Harvard.
