The Cubs and right-hander Jake Arrieta agreed to a $15,637,500,
one-year contract, but there were no signs that the sides were any
closer to a multiyear deal. Arrieta, who won the NL Cy Young Award
in 2015, could be one of the top free agents next winter. He is
54-21 with a 2.52 ERA in three-plus seasons since joining Chicago
in a lopsided trade with Baltimore. Arrieta said he will not be
with the Cubs when they visit the White House on Monday, citing
family reasons.
The White Six also signed third baseman Todd Frazier to a 1 year
contract worth 12 million dollars.
