Fairways Golf Tournament Men's Champion Jon Woepel
There were 2 first time winners today at the 4th Annual Fairways Golf Tournament in Rochelle.
Jon Woepel won the Men's Championship while 16-year old Caitlin Schoepfer of Rockford finished in first place in the Women's Championship Division.
Woepel, who won his first ever golf tournament, finished the 54 holes at 3 over par 201 which included a final 9 holes of 2 under par 28. He was tied with defending champion Thomas Brennan going into the back 9 at Fairways Golf Course with a 173 total. He opened up a 5 shot lead following an eagle 2 on the par 4 13th hole. Woepel's 2nd shot went in the hole from 140 yards out. He won the tournament by 4 shots.
First day leader Josh Johnson and David Shaw tied for 3rd place, 12 shots off the lead.

Dakota Johnson won the Flight "A" Division when he defeated Dan Ruppenthal on the 2nd playoff hole with a par. Both golfers had finished at 242 for the 54-hole tournament. Johnson shot a final round of 73.
First day leader Brandon Svela finished 2 shot from making the playoff.
For the second straight year, Jim Peters was the winner in the Seniors Division with a 75-72, 147 total. Tom Misciasci finished in 2nd place with a 178.

Schoepfer, a junior at Rockford Lutheran High School, won the Women's Championship Division with an 88-85, 173 total. That was 10 shots better than 2-time defending champion Watsana Thiravong.
Joanna Sharp finished in 3rd place, 14 shots out of first place.
