David Ross launched a solo homer in the sixth inning to put the Cubs on top for good in a 4-3 win over the Pirates at Wrigley Field. Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant also went deep for Chicago, which improved to a major-league best 46-and-20. Jon Lester tossed six strong innings on the mound to get the win.
Pittsburgh was paced at the plate by a couple of hits from Jordy Mercer, including a home run in the first inning to lead off the game. Jonathon Niese allowed all four runs in five-and-a-third frames for the Bucs, who suffered their ninth loss in 10 games.
The Cubs look for the 3-game sweep tonight at Wrigley Field over the Pirates.
