Yordano Ventura struck out ten batters over seven strong innings to lead the Royals past the White Sox, 3-1, at US Cellular Field. It was Ventura's first start since appealing his nine-game suspension for throwing at Manny Machado in Baltimore. Whit Merrifield paced Kansas City at the plate with three hits while Salvador Perez went deep in the ninth. The Royals have now won two in-a-row after dropping eight straight games.
Chicago's only run came in the sixth on a solo-shot from Jose Abreu. Carlos Rodon suffered the loss as the South Siders fell back under .500 at 31-and-32.
The White Sox open up a series tonight at home against Detroit. The game can be heard on Newstalk 1060.
