John Lackey combined with three relievers on a six-hitter as the Cubs shut out the Diamondbacks 6-0 at Wrigley Field. Lackey allowed five hits while walking two and striking out nine over six-and-two-thirds innings to move to 6-and-2. Anthony Rizzo broke up a scoreless game with an RBI double in the sixth and Chicago tacked on five more in the eighth to take the opener of the three-game series. Addison Russell and Javier Baez each had two-run doubles in the frame.
Archie Bradley struck out 10 over six innings of one-run ball for Arizona, but fell to 2-and-1 with the tough-luck loss.
Game #2 of the series is this afternoon at Wrigley Field.
