Chicago Sports

David Ross belted a three-run homer, the 100th of his career, to help power the Cubs to a 6-2 win over the Phillies at rainy Wrigley Field. Jorge Soler  and Kris Bryant also homered as Chicago took the opener of the three-game set. The game was twice interrupted by rain. Jon Lester pitched six-and-a-third innings of two-run ball to get the win and move to 5-and-3.

Adam Morgan surrendered all six runs in four frames to fall to 1-and-3. Maikel Franco plated both runs for Philadelphia with a sac-fly in the third and an infield single in the seventh. The Phillies have lost five-of-seven.

Game #2 of the series is this afternoon at Wrigley Field

Eric Hosmer homered and drove in four runs to help the Royals rally to beat the White Sox, 7-5 at Kauffman Stadium.  Whit Merrifield added a pair of RBI for Kansas City, which has won three of its last four games.  Peter Moylan picked up the victory in relief while Wade Davis closed it out for his 13th save.

Chicago used back-to-back home runs to take a four-run lead in the sixth.  Melky Cabrera hit a grand-slam, followed by a solo-shot from Todd Frazier.  The White Sox have now dropped four straight.

Game #2 of the series is this afternoon with the Pre-Game Show at 12:40 on Newstalk 1060 from Kansas City.

The Chicago Bears and first-round draft pick
Leonard Floyd have agreed to a four-year contract with an option
for a fifth year.

The Bears drafted the outside linebacker from Georgia with the
ninth pick after trading up two spots in a deal with Tampa Bay.
Chicago hopes he will add some athleticism to a team trying to
build on a 6-10 season. The 6-foot-6, 244-pound Floyd led the
Bulldogs in sacks for the third straight year with 4 1/2, and tied
for the team lead with 10 1/2 tackles for loss last season.

With the announcement Friday, the Bears have agreed to contracts
with eight of their nine picks. Defensive end Jonathan Bullard, a
third-rounder from Florida, is the exception.
