The Cubs scored six times in the second inning and held off the Cardinals for a 9-8 win at Busch Stadium. Jason Heyward had a two-run double and Ben Zobrist singled in two more in the frame for Chicago. After St. Louis pulled to within 6-4, Kris Bryant belted a three-run homer in the sixth to extend the lead again. Jake Arrieta allowed four runs in five innings, but still picked up the win to move to 9-and-0. The Cubs have won his last 23 starts, tying a major league record.
Randall Grichuk , Matt Holliday and Matt Adams all homered for the Cards. Carlos Martinez took the loss.
The Cubs begin a series with Philadelphia on Friday at Wrigley Field.
