The Cubs scored six runs in the first and never looked back in a 12-3 win over the Cardinals. Jason Hammel hit a two-run double in the first and fired seven-and-a-third innings of one-run ball to improve to 6-and-1. Jorge Soler homered, scored twice and plated three in the laugher.
Michael Wacha was shelled for eight runs and eight hits in four innings to fall to 2-and-5. St. Louis is seven games behind first-place Chicago in the NL Central.
