It was a 4th place finish Saturday for the Rochelle Township High School bass fishing team at the State Tournament. The event took place at Carlyle Lake in southern Illinois.
The boat of Nolan Turner and Alex Patterson caught 5 bass fish for the tournament which weighed in a 13 pounds, 14 ounces. They caught only 1 fish yesterday which weighed in a 2 pounds, 1 ounce.
Rochelle was in 2nd place in the standings after the first day of competition as they caught 4 fish which weighed 11 pounds, 5 ounces.
The driver of the boat was RTHS Head Coach Curt Sambo.
Elverado High School in Elkville was the state champion this year as they caught 10 fish over the 2 days that weighed 21 pounds, 5 ounces. That was nearly 7 pounds more than Highland High School who finished in 2nd place.
RTHS was making their 4th appearance at the State Bass Fishing Tournament. They have qualified the past 2 years. Today's 4th place finish was the highest in the program at the State Tournament.
Girls Track
The RTHS 1600 girls track relay team finished in 7th place Saturday in the finals of the Class 2A State Meet in Charleston.
The relay team of Franny Vardman, Morgan Baker, Morgan Knight, and Jacie Wyatt ran a time of (4:05.03). The relay team is all sophomores.
This was the first time since 2011 that the RTHS girls track program had a relay team in the finals.
The race was won by Kaneland High School with a time of (3:56.15). The Lady Knights also tied for first place in the team standings with Cahokia High School with 53 points.
LaSalle-Peru High School finished in 5th place in the race.
