Cubs lose twice to San Diego

Brett Wallace capped a four-run seventh inning with a three-run homer that propelled the Padres to a 7-2 win over the Cubs in Game One of a day-night doubleheader at Wrigley Field. Derek Norris went 3-for-5 and Matt Kemp drove in two runs for San Diego. Carlos Villanueva earned the win, as the Padres' bullpen pitched four scoreless frames. Fernando Rodney worked the ninth for his ninth save.

Pedro Strop gave up the three-run bomb in the seventh without recording an out to take the loss. Ben Zobrist and Addison Russell had two hits each for Chicago, which had won eight straight.

The Padres finished off a doubleheader sweep of the Cubs with a 1-0 win in the nightcap.  Christian Bethancourt plated the game's only run on a solo homer in the fifth.  Drew Pomeranz fanned 10 over six innings of three-hit ball to improve to 4-and-3.  Fernando Rodney nailed down his 10th save.

John Lackey went eight innings, but served up the homer to fall to 4-and-2.  The Cubs have lost two straight for the first time this season.

The Cubs have the day off today. They open up a series at Wrigley Field against Piitsburgh on Friday
