White Sox beat Boston 4-1, release Danks

Jose Quintana tossed eight innings of one-run ball to lead the White Sox to a 4-1 win over the Red Sox. Quintana improved to 4-and-1. David Robertson worked a perfect ninth for his ninth save. Jose Abreu tripled, doubled and knocked in three to help Chicago improve to 19-and-8.

Hanley Ramirez slugged a solo homer for Boston, which had won its previous three. Steven Wright allowed two runs in six frames to fall to 2-and-3.

Game #2 in the series is tonight and can be heard on Newstalk 1060.

The White Sox are letting go of pitcher John Danks.  The team has designated the veteran left-hander for assignment.  The move comes in the final year of his five-year, 65-million-dollar contract.  The 31-year-old is struggling this season at 0-and-4 with a 7.25 ERA.
