Jason Hammel did it all as the Cubs clipped the Cardinals, 2-1. Hammel struck out six over six innings of one-run ball to improve to 2-and-0. Hammel also plated both Chicago runs on a single in the fourth. The 11-and-3 Cubs are off to their best start since 1970.
Yadier Molina had an RBI triple for St. Louis, which will try to avoid a three-game sweep Wednesday. Jamie Garcia dropped to 1-and-1 with the loss.

Mat Latos pitched into the seventh as the White Sox blanked the Angels, 5-0. Latos scattered two hits and three walks while striking out five to improve to 3-and-0. Nate Jones earned his first save. Jose Abreu and Todd Frazier launched solo homers to help Chicago stop a three-game slide. Matt Shoemaker allowed two runs in six-and-a-third innings to fall to 1-and-2. The Angels have lost four of their last five.
