• The Huskies currently rank 22nd nationally in field goal percentage defense. NIU’s opponents are shooting just 39.3 percent on the season.

• Marin Maric is currently tied for fourth in the MAC in rebounding (8.2 rpg), seventh in blocked shots (1.2 bpg) and 10th in field goal percentage (48.8 percent). Maric’s nine double-doubles this season is the fourth-best total in the conference.

• Michael Orris and Travon Baker are first and fifth in assist/turnover ratio in the MAC. Orris is first at 2.2 and Baker is fifth at 1.9.

• With 167 career steals, Travon Baker has become the NIU career steals leader, passing Ronald Minter’s (1993-97) old mark of 163 with his first steal at Miami (Jan. 30).

• The NIU freshmen class of Marshawn Wilson, Jaylen Key, Austin Pauga, Laytwan Porter and Levi Bradley have combined to score 38.3 percent of NIU’s total points this season.

• Laytwan Porter’s 2.3 assists per game are the most among freshmen in the MAC. Porter is also averaging 1.0 steals per game, tied for the most among MAC freshmen this season with Buffalo’s C.J. Massinburg.

• NIU’s 16-7 start is the best 23-game start to a season since 1990-91 when the Huskies were 20-3 after 23 games.

• NIU is 33-5 all-time when scoring 70-or-more points under head coach Mark Montgomery, including a 13-2 mark this season.

• Travon Baker has recorded 318 career assists to rank sixth in NIU history in career assists.

ABOUT KENT STATE

• The Golden Flashes bring a 15-8 overall record, and a 6-4 conference mark, into Tuesday’s contest. Kent State has dropped its last three games, including an 82-67 loss to Toledo last time out (Feb. 6).

• Kent State has a 9-2 mark at home this season, with its only losses coming to Buffalo (Jan. 8) and Toledo (Feb. 6).

• Three players score in double figures for Kent State, led by 16.3 points per game from Jimmy Hall; Hall is also Kent State’s leading rebounder at 7.6 boards per contest. Xavier Pollard (12.2 ppg) and Kellon Thomas (12.0 ppg) also score in double figures for the Golden Flashes.

• Kent State ranks second in the MAC in rebounding margin at +4.5, trailing only NIU who leads the conference at +6.8.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE GOLDEN FLASHES

• Kent State holds a 34-19 advantage all-time in the series against NIU, including an 18-6 edge at home against the Huskies.

• The Golden Flashes won last season’s lone meeting, 67-65, on Jan. 10, 2015, in DeKalb. Kris Brewer made a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining to give Kent State the victory.

• In the last meeting in Kent, the Huskies earned a 50-49 victory (Jan. 29, 2014). NIU rallied from a 14-point second half deficit to win the game on a pair of free throws by Travon Baker with five seconds left.

• NIU’s 2014 victory at Kent State snapped a five-game road losing streak against the Golden Flashes, it was NIU’s first win at Kent State since 2003.

• The road team has won the last three games in the series, the last time the home team won was a 67-65 NIU victory on Jan. 30, 2013 in DeKalb.

A LOOK BACK AT OHIO

• NIU fell behind by as much as 18 in the first half before rallying to take a second half lead, only to fall, 80-69, at Ohio on Feb. 6.

• The Bobcats shot 60.6 percent (20-of-33) from the field in the opening 20 minutes to build a 16-point halftime lead. The Huskies shot 55.6 percent (15-of-27) in the second half to close the deficit and take the lead in the second half.

• Two Huskies, Aaric Armstead and Marin Maric, recorded double-doubles against Ohio. Armstead scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Maric recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds.

• Levi Bradley added 15 points for NIU and Travon Baker was the fourth Huskie in double figures with 10 points.

• Jaaron Simmons led all scorers with 24 points for the Bobcats, Simmons also recorded 12 assists.

• The Bobcats turned 16 NIU turnovers into 23 points while NIU was able to turn 11 Ohio turnovers into just 11 points.

• The NIU bench outscored the Ohio reserves, 29-7.
